YouTube Spotlight: runnyrunny999 & Ochikeron
When I started my YouTube channel, I was in a serious Japanese food zone. I wanted to document my recipes so I got started with a handheld Sony webbie camera and made videos. Almost 2 years later, I am still making videos with upgraded equipment, a vast recipe collection and a passion to explore the world of food. But when I think about how it all began, I have to give credit to Japanese food. If it wasn’t for my obsession with learning to cook Japanese food, I don’t think I would be where I am now.
I think that the most appealing part about Japanese food is it’s elegance and simplicity. Whether you are eating at a nice restaurant or in a family setting, there is always so much care given to the meal that it’s evident in every step. When I had the opportunity to work in a Japanese kitchen, the chefs were always adamant about technique and process. There was always a proper way to do something and for good reason. There was pride in every step and we were always rewarded by the end product, whether it was a special menu item or simple ‘makanai’ or staff meal.
This month, I would like to share some links with you from a couple of my YouTube friends, runnyrunny999 and ochikeron. Runnyrunny999 (aka Taro) and I have done a couple collaborative videos and was the first creator I really got to know. He helped me get involved in the YouTube community and made me realize my potential. Ochikeron is another Japanese cook on YouTube that recently caught my attention. Her videos are polished and her recipes are straight forward and easy to make. Be sure to check out their videos, comment and subscribe!
As for me, I have more Japanese recipes on the way, starting with Oyakodon. Take care and have fun in the kitchen!
